Spence doesn't have a dummy, it was a personal choice. He is a thumb sucker. I was a thumb sucker and one of my earliest memories is of my mum telling me that I wasn't to suck my thumb during the day, that it was only for going to sleep with. I didn't suck my thumb during the day, even at the age of 4 or 5 I felt embarrassed by it cos its what babies do! I stopped sucking my thumb at night when I was about 11.

Spence's thumb isn't constantly in his mouth, he sucks it if he's tired or if he's in pain. He uses it as a soother which I don't have a problem with.

Whenever Tyler moans and its not for an apparent reason, he gets a dummy. I use his dummy like a volume control button. They are there to pacify babies- why wouldnt i use one?!! lol

I was a thumb sucker but by the time I reached school, I'd sucked it so often that I'd damaged the skin on my thumb - whenever it was sucked (or even licked) it blistered and peeled. I couldn't even lick the salt from crisps off it for years.

lucy wouldn't have her dummy til she was about 6 mths old & she was ill & wouldn't stop crying so i tried it again &it worked so we stuck with it but i was mean & she only got them at sleep time & when she was poorly, she used to have anbout 10 lined up against the bed rail & in her sleep she would swop hem around til she found her favourite one!! just before she was 3 we persuaed her to give it to santa & she was ok about it, she still sleeps with her muslin cloth though, George has one to go to sleep if he's grizzling but it doesn't say in long & its grt for peace when he's hungry & waiting for his bottle to warm, personally i hate to see kids walking round with them in & struggling to talk

I always said I didnt want my kids to have a dummy but when Morgan started teething I gave in and let him have one. I'm trying to cut down on how often he has his now as I dont like seeing him with one. I must admit I'm already tempted to give Paige one as she is wanting to use me for comfort alot at the moment but I'm trying to hold off.

My OH niece has a dummy and she's almost 7 I hate seeing her walk about with it, infact she's nicked Morgan's before today which isnt on. I think there is a time and a place for dummies.

wel i always hated the thort of dummies and said matilda wud never have one when she got to about 5 days old she got a bad eye infection and she cried a lot and the only way to soothe her was to let her suck my finger and after a few nights of laying awake with my hand in the moses basket letting her suck my finger i thort right some get me a dummy we gave her it and it was like a miracle she never cried again and from 6days old she slept 8-12hours so she only has it at night time not in the day time i am not against them and they work for some people and not for others so i think its upto the individual
