Dying hair and make up!

Post by admin on Mon Nov 26, 2007 9:41 am

What sort of age do you think is acceptable for a child to say have highlights added or begin to wear some make up?

Down bournemouth i knew a little girl whom was 8 with blonde highlights in her brown hair.

My parents let me have my hair dyed at 8. Not permanent though, just a wash in wash out one. I think that obviously the later the better, but if you let your child do one extra "grown-up" thing every year, they wont run out of stuff to do by the time they are 14. I would let an 8 year old use colour sprays etc, but permanent colour they would have to be at least 11 and in high school. i would encourage LIGHT make up (ie. lip gloss and a bit of blusher) alongside a healthy skincare regime (cleanse, tone, masques) because skin problems can start as young as 9! I think its not what you let your kids do, its how you introduce them to it and if you say no, the reasons you give... lets face it, "because i said so" just doesnt cut it.

Well i started wearing make up every day for school when i was about 11, but it wasnt alot and natural colours etc. I think it all depends on how much a child applies and what colours. I had a friend who at 11 came in every day wearing thick foundation, red lipstick and pat butcher stylee blue eyeshadow. She looked like a barbie doll, and it looked awful on someone so young.
So all in moderation until they are 14/15 perhaps. As for hair im not sure. Perhaps the same age?

i think withing reason i wouldnt mind my daughter wearing a little natural make up from the age of about 10! As for hair dying i would not pay for it for my child. if they wanted to save up for it then that would be fine by me after the age of 10 or so at secondary school when they start becoming more aware of heir appearance but otherwise i think i would make them save up so they realise how much it costs etc!

My daughter is 15, (today! lol) & she wears a lil make-up. Mascara, a bit of lipgloss & that's it. Some of the other girls in her year cake it on with a spatula & look awful! Inch thick foundation, eyeliner that makes them look like pandas. I think make-up is ok, as long as they have been shown how to use it properly. Becky has worn it for about 2 years now. I did let her put a semi-dye in her hair last year.
