a mothers appearance?

Post by admin on Thu Oct 04, 2007 5:24 pm

How much of a part does a mothers appearance play in your judgement of her? For example, if you see a dolled up mum at playgroup, what do you think? do you think nothing of it? If you see a mum looking very scruffy, does it affect your opinion of her?

I went out with paul yesterday into down, wearing a grey and black winter dress, fishnet tights and kneehigh black boots....and overheard a woman at the bus stop saying...what sort of mother dresses like that?! No whilst it didnt bother me in the slightest...it got me thinking...how many people do actually judge mothers on their appearance?

I don't judge other people but I do judge myself. I am very fortunate to have a good slim figure after having 2 children but at my age there is plenty that I don't feel I can't get away with because I don't want other people to judge me. Not sure if that makes sense!

I think other mothers feel threatened by yummy mummies! I think comments like that are born from jealousy Max! I mean we all hate it when someone else looks better than us dont we!

I think i probably judge sometimes Embarassed Though i would never say what that cow said to you Maxine!
And yes it all boils down to jealousy. There was a woman who dropped her son off to playgroup the other week wearing a very short skirt, and in my head i though 'blimmin heck, its only the school playground' and wondered who she was trying to impress. But if im honest its just because i was having a trackie bottoms day and she looked much better than me, and i could never get away with wearing something so revealing!!

o and the other thing that bothers me is mums who do wear revealing things that they CANNOT get away with! I do not know why they do it to themselves but then i suppose that goes for everyone really not just mums!

OK, i'll hold up my hands and admit i have had thoughts like that myself. i'd NEVER say anything.. but yea, its more than certainly a jealousy thing! There was one particular mum, who always used to pass me on the way home from taking Em to school, & i used to think to myself 'look at her, stuck up snobby cow'.... well now she's my best mate! Imagine that.. LOL.. Emily & her daughter hit it off at school, therefore bringing me & this mum together as well. As it is, she's not stuck up at all. in fact, rather shy! So now if i catch myself looking at people and thinking judgemental thoughts, i just look at myself & wish i could wear nice clothes!

Maxine the reason they said that love was probably because deep down they knew you looked good, maybe they was a little bit jelous. Just because someone becomes a mum doesn't mean she has to dress down.

I would never judge a person by the clothes they wear.
