PostSubject: stardust   Tue Mar 18, 2008 2:56 pm

This film has the sub title the fairytale that wont behave and that is very true. We watched this on DVD and i thoroughly enjoyed it. Itstars Claire Danes as a star, Michelle Pfeiffer as a witch and Robert De Niro[who in my opinion steals the film] as a camp pirate. The story is basically a love story in that the main character Tristan is trying to woo the hand of a pretty girl in his viallge but to prove his love he needs to catch and deliver a start to her and so the story begins with things not quite turning out as he had planned. The star is infact in the form of a beautiful woman and he has a witch to contend with who is also after the star.

The film is very easy to watch and the story although magical and fairytale like, it is believable and you start to believe and care for the characters. It is also the kind of film that you will want to watch again and again as it is soo lovely. It is just over 2 hours long but the pace is fairly quick with lots of action and it see,s to go quickly. You will love the characters and as i say for me Robert De Niro steals the whole film, very enjoyable

i would give it 5/5

Simpsons: the Movie

Comedy

I was practially raised by the Simpsons, my dad loves it, so me Michael and my little brother went to see it. I thought it was quite boring, the funniest bit was the Spiderpig thing, but I'd seen that on the adverts before anyway. It was just like one long episode really, rather than a film. 2/5.

300

This is the tale of Leonidas I, King of Sparta, son of King Anaxandridas II, descendant of Heracles, who led 300 Spartan warriors against the seemingly unending forces of Emperor Xerxes of Persia at The Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC.

Xerxes sent forth messengers to all Greek city-states, offering gifts in exchange for their surrender and allegiance. Leonidas did not take the insult kindly, and in a breach of protocol, killed the messengers. In accordance with Spartan law, he sought permission from the keepers of the oracle to go to war. He was denied, which he knew spelt disaster for his people.

Although unable to rally the Spartan army, he skirted the law by gathering 300 warriors for a walk that coincidentally set out towards the mountain pass known as The Hot Gates, which is the only way Xerxes’ army could approach Sparta. While Leonidas is away and the battle rages on, Queen Gorgo works to convince the Spartan Council that the army needs to be discharged.

300 is an adaptation of the graphic novel written and drawn by Frank Miller, with colors by Lynn Varley. Miller was inspired to chronicle this historical event after he saw the film The 300 Spartans as a young boy. From his vision, co-writer/director Zack Snyder has created a magnificent ballet of violence and bloodshed.

Leonidas, played valiantly by Gerard Butler, is a proud King whose men worship him. He leads from the front, at the point of attack, unlike many leaders and rulers ever since who have hurled commands from the safety of being out of range.

Leonidas’ military decisions have an immediate impact on him, as well as those who serve alongside, allowing him to fully understand the price to be paid, and a mutual respect to flourish. During one battle, an injured soldier tells Leonidas it was an honor to die serving him. Leonidas informs the soldier it was an honor living beside him.

Enjoyed it but it is one of those movies that you would have to watch more than once to understand the whole concept and story.

Would rate it 3/5

PostSubject: I Pronounce You Chuck and Larry   Tue Mar 18, 2008 5:18 pm

If you want to just switch your brain off then this is a good film. If you want subtle, interestng characters then this isn't the film for you.

Adam Sandler (Chuck) is slightly mis-cast as an irresistable fireman while Kevin James (Larry) plays his widowed best friend. In order to ensure that Larry's kids are looked after in the event of his death the two best friends decide to get married. The marriage is investigated by the fraud squad and the "couple" seek the help of a lawyer in the form of the stunningly beautiful Jessica Biel.

There are some truely toe-curling scenes with Ving Rhames so be warned, LOL.

Cameos from Steve Bucemi and Rob Schnieder do add laughs but this film probably appeals to people for whom farting is the highest comedy form!

Pixie's rating: 2/5

PostSubject: The Cottage   Tue Mar 18, 2008 10:19 pm

Genre: Horror/ Comedy
Cert: 18

Basic storyline:
David convinces his brother Peter to kidnap his bosses daughter Tracey, and ask for a ransom of £100,000. Tracey's step-brother Andrew is in on it, and wants £50,000. While David goes to make the call to his boss Arnie, Tracey wakes up and beats Peter up, then forces him to walk through the woods with her. David comes back to find Andrew unconcious on the floor. He wakes him and they go after Tracey and Peter. Meanwhile Tracey and Peter have come across a strange house in the middle of a field. They go inside and what they find isn't pretty. They end up hidden away, and David and Andrew finally come to the house. As they walk upto it, they realise that the man inside is mental, and try to find Peter. What happens next is gory and disgusting.

I would rate this film 6/10. It's quite funny in places but I think you need a certain type of humour to find it amusing, the graphics look quite real and it's a really gruesome film. The storyline is your typical teen horror, quite poor TBH, but it's alright to watch if you've nothing better to do lol.

PostSubject: premonition!   Thu Apr 03, 2008 12:05 pm

the film premonition!

well i watched this film last night on sky and i would rate it out of 5 a 4.

its stars sandra bullock as a housewife who had a dream that her hunsband is killed in a car accident, she jumps forward in time seeing how her life and her childrens lifes change for the worse and then back in time were she trys to stop these things happening, in which she doesnt succed her husband is still faytelly killed but she does change her life and how that could turn out.

this film is more of a romantic drama then an action based film. I thought i would hate it as it seem like a predictable film but wasnt my partner even enjoyed the film, you think you know what is going to happen but the script writters of this film got it down to a tee, in doing unpredicatable things.

A must see for the ladies and you partner may even end up watching it too.

4/5 stars.

Nanny McPhee

Fantasy type film

Stars: Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Kelly MacDonald

well there was nothing on tv on Sunday so I thought i'd give this a try. It was about a widowed Colin Firth with 6 kids (I think), he couldnt cope so kep bringing in nannys but the kids drove them away by being so rude etc....that was until Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson) turned up.

Nanny McPhee had 5 lessons for the kids to learn, i.e. To say Thank You, which neither of them done, etc. And as all the kids learned a lesson, she got prettier and prettier. Once the kids had learned all her lessons, she had to leave them though.... Sad . At the end Colin Firth married one of his maids and the kids all loved her....awwh a happy ending.

Rating: 4 out of 5

Film: One Missed Call
Genre: Horror
Cert: 15

This really gave me the creeps! It's basically a group of young adults who get a phone call from a dead friend but it's from the future and when they answer or listen to the voicemail they hear themselves die. They then start to see weird, spooky things and end up dying. The starring woman and a policeman try to figure out what's happening, but there's a big twist at the end. I'd recommend this but not if you're a whimp lol!

Film: The Eye
Genre: Horror
Cert: 15

Jessica Alba plays Sydney Wells, a violinist made blind at the age of 5 thanks to an accident with fire-crackers. She has a cornea transplant and starts to see strange images, things that everyone else says 'aren't really there' although she's certain they are. I won't tell you all the ending but it's quite sad really.

This film made me jump SO much! It's very unexpected and graphic but I thought it was rather good if a bit repetative.
